Super Bowl Mail
by Stormy on February 08, 2010

Reader feedback is probably one of the best parts of writing a blog and I was lucky enough get information on real life marmot teams.

Following my February 7 Super Bowl XLIV article, I received some feedback from our readers about teams the names of which I proposed. It turns out that there is a small school district named Punxsutawney in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania that consists of six elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. The district mascot is the Punxsutawney Woodchuck and although the district website does not allude to it, just about everyone else who talks about the district does. There is also a minor league team, the Wisconsin Woodchucks, which plays in the Northwoods League, an NCAA summer baseball league. The Wisconsin Woodchucks are based out of Wausau, in the league's south division. Their mascot is a rather scary looking Woodrow T. Woodchuck, a 400+ lbs "taller than average" woodchuck. Perhaps there's a madness to the system. Little League Woodchucks grow up to be Minor League Woodchucks, who eventually claw their way up to the Major Leagues. I have no doubt that there is a Major League Woodchucks team just around the corner! Now, does anyone know anything about a Marmot team?
