A Groundhog Party
by Stormy on February 02, 2008

Marmots are social animals and there's no reason to turn down a good party. In fact, there's every reason to look for a good party to join in on!

Groundhog Day is a major cultural holiday and if you scan the media around February 2, you'll see that a lot of people take it very seriously. Well, they take the idea of having a party seriously. I haven't really noticed that the parties themselves have any semblance of seriousness at all. This Groundhogs Day I got a bunch of friends out of hibernation and we absconded a copy of Groundhog Day to watch. Turns out this was the fifteenth anniversary special release edition of the video with a whole bunch of special features, including a special on the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, which has been studying marmot behavior continuously since 1962! Watching the movie was great. I've seen it before, but many of my friends had a first time experience. We wish Punxsutawney Phil had a little more air time! Maybe we can make this an annual event! And maybe this summer we can visit the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in Crested Butte, Colorado for a tour of the facility!
